Mute

These provocative words sent in by Jill W.
Psalm 115: 2-7

Why do the nations say,
"Where is their God?"
Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but they cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

One of the saddest things I saw in Japan was a couple of kindy kids (about 4 years old)in a Shinto Shrine worshipping the spirits of their ancestors, with heads bowed and eyes closed.
My travelling companion said "there's always something special about seeing little kids in prayer", but I just felt overwhelming sadness at the thought of these kids living a life with no hope in an afterlife. It has given me renewed enthusiasm for teaching the gospel to our Sunday School kids, particularly the security in eternal life which comes when we put our trust in Jesus.
